Independent Bookstore Day


Saturday, April 28th is Independent Bookstore Day! Please join Birchbark Books for a full day of prizes and giveaways, author appearances, dancing, refreshments, and more. Special activities for kids at ARTrageous Adventures. Plenty of fun for the whole family!

  • 11am: The spectacular Ramsey's Braggarts Morris Men will dance.
  • 10am-2pm: Kids! ARTrageous Adventures will be hosting a Maisy Goes to the Local Bookstore storytime at 11am and 1pm with a Bookmark Making Mouse Creation Station following each storytime. Stop by anytime between 10am-2pm to make May Day baskets and get your face painted in honor of May Day and Indie Bookstore Day. Also: lemonade and cookies!
  • 2pm: Meet Kelly Barnhill, author of the runaway hit The Girl Who Drank the Moon. Kelly will be signing copies of her new collection of short stories, Dreadful Young Ladies and Other Stories.

Twin Cities IBD Passport: 18 Twin Cities bookstores are participating in the Independent Bookstore Day passport giveaway. Pick up your passport at any participating store and receive a passport stamp at each store you visit on IBD. Each stamped page in the passport will entitle you to a special discount on your next visit to that store. In addition, get 5 stamps and enter to win one of five $20 gift certificates to your favorite participating store. Get 10 stamps and enter to win one of 18 literary prize packs, each chock full of more than a dozen new books and other great prizes. Visit all 18 stores and enter to win the grand literary prize pack, which contains all the prizes in the literary prize pack above PLUS an additional 18 books chosen by our great independent bookstores. Midwest Indie Bookstore Roadmap: With colorful original illustrations by Twin Cities artist Kevin Cannon, the map features approximately 150 bookstores across North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Pick up your free map on or after Independent Bookstore Day. During the following year, visit any store on the map, take a photo and post it to social media using the hashtag #BookstoreRoadmap. Every month, one Twitter post will be selected to receive a $25 gift card to any store on the map. On Independent Bookstore Day 2019, one post will be selected to receive a $500 gift card to any store on the map.
